The Essentials of CBT for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (March 2024)

This five-part course focuses on CBT for post-traumatic stress disorder. The course begins with an overview and introduction to four “patients” who are then followed in additional sections. Each patient highlights a core component of CBT for trauma. The first section focuses on behavioral skills focusing on imaginal exposure for post-traumatic stress disorder. The second section focuses on further behavioral interventions including in vivo and interoceptive exposure. Next, we focus on cognitive restructuring skills for trauma. Finally, we focus on emotion regulation skills that can be used in trauma-informed work. Throughout each section expert clinicians will demonstrate, via role-plays, the application of these skills.
Course materials are available beginning March 4, 2024 and all course work must be completed by April 22, 2024.

Cancellation Policy
Refunds will be issued for cancellation requests made during the first week of the course, but an administrative fee of $25.00 will be deducted from your refund. Cancellation requests made during the second week will receive a credit toward a future offering of the same course. No refunds or credits will be granted after March 18, 2024.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this program, participants will be able to:
- Describe information related to PTSD, including prevalence, DSM criteria, morbidity and comorbidity.
- Explain two exposure-based approaches for reducing PTSD symptoms by confronting trauma memories and related emotions.
- Describe the mechanisms by which exposure to trauma memories reduces PTSD symptoms.
- Discuss how using exposure to trauma memories and emotions facilitates shifts in the perceived meaning of the trauma.
- Create an in vivo exposure hierarchy for reducing trauma-related situational avoidance.
- Explain the mechanisms by which exposure to trauma-related situations and cues reduces PTSD symptoms.
- Plan an effective in vivo exposure for PTSD and troubleshoot common pitfalls that undermine in vivo exposure.
- Identify core trauma-related beliefs
- Describe techniques to assist patients in recognizing and challenging trauma-related beliefs
- Discuss how to guide patients in restructuring trauma-related beliefs to generate more accurate and helpful cognitions
- Describe how to recognize and support emotional habituation inherent to the behavioral and cognitive techniques used with patients
- Identify and describe coping skills training for patients who struggle to engage in adaptive behaviors
- Discuss how to teach patients how and when to use mindfulness and distress tolerance skills in CBT for PTSD

Interrupting Microaggressions & Repairing Harm in Healthcare
MGH Institute of Health Professions & Spaulding Rehabilitation Network
When a microaggression occurs, healthcare workers will feel empowered to provide feedback to colleagues, to reflect, and to have the tools to repair any harm they caused. This training will help workers recognize when a microaggression has occurred and how to discuss it with their coworkers and take steps to mitigate any harm.
